Workplace Workshops

I provide practical, in-person workplace health workshops for organisations in Wellington that want to help staff stay physically well at work.

Most sessions are with office-based teams, but they can be adapted for any workplace where sitting, repetitive activity, sustained positions or other physical demands affect comfort and function.

The emphasis is on practical changes that people can make during the working day.

What the Workshops Can Cover

A common theme is how to get through a day in the office while doing as much as reasonably possible for your body and health within the constraints of desk-based work.

This can include sitting and workstation setup, the effects of prolonged inactivity and sustained positions, how much movement is actually needed to make a useful difference, and simple ways to build more movement into the working day.

I also cover topics such as stress, the physical effects of prolonged sedentary work, and a simple explanation of how the pain system works. This can help people make better sense of posture and movement, and why regular movement during the working day matters.

Practical, Interactive and Tailored to Your Workplace

The sessions are in person and interactive. We may run through different ways of sitting, standing and moving, and apply these to the people attending.

The content is adapted to the workplace and the physical demands of the staff. Participants are encouraged to practice useful strategies during the session rather than simply listen to a presentation.

What Staff Take Away

The aim is for staff to gain a clearer understanding of how their body responds to the demands of work and to leave with a small number of practical changes they can use straight away.

The emphasis is on realistic strategies that are easy to remember and therefore more likely to become part of the working day.

Experience in Workplace Health and Ergonomics

My interest in workplace health and ergonomics has developed through many years of treating musculoskeletal problems in clinical practice.

Over time, that led me to look more closely at how sitting, driving, workstations, repetitive tasks and everyday movement affect pain and function. It also led to me founding Fullmove Ltd, an ergonomic product development company.
